As a Cancer Champion, your primary responsibility will be to raise awareness about cancer prevention and detection within the community. This may include organising and participating in events, distributing educational materials, and serving as a liaison between patients, healthcare professionals, and the community. You'll also be expected to advocate for cancer patients and possibly assist in patient support activities.

Volunteering is unpaid; however, some out-of-pocket expenses, like travel or lunch, may be reimbursed. Please check with the volunteer manager for details.

The role typically requires a time commitment of a few hours per week, although this can vary depending on specific events and activities planned throughout the year. We strive to be flexible and can often tailor your schedule to fit your availability.

We provide comprehensive training that covers all aspects necessary for you to perform effectively and confidently. The training usually a full day or two half days training. This includes information on various types of cancer, communication skills, patient privacy laws, and guidance on handling sensitive situations. Training sessions are conducted at the start of your volunteering and are supplemented with periodic updates and refresher courses

While no specific qualifications are required to become a Cancer Champion, we look for individuals who are compassionate, empathetic, and have strong communication skills. A background in healthcare or prior volunteer experience can be beneficial but is not essential. All necessary training is provided.

You will receive continuous support from our team, including a designated supervisor who will guide and assist you in your duties. We provide all necessary resources and materials for your activities and ensure you have access to additional support whenever needed, including peer support groups and professional advice.

Yes, after volunteering with us for a certain period, we are happy to provide a reference for future employment or volunteering opportunities.

We are looking for champion 18 years or over. However if you are under 18, do get in touch. There may be opportunities to support in working within the community, attending events.
